The Live Music and Screen Magic of Pianist Robert Bruce and Buster Keaton

“A Marriage of Film and Music Made in Heaven”
Stephen Hayes, Film Reviewer and Producer/Host of SOUNDTRACK 93.3 CFMU-FM

The music of composer and pianist Robert Bruce opens a new doorway to the magical world of the great comedy film legend, Buster Keaton . These films, brought to life with Robert Bruce's original music provide wonderful entertainment for many event situations, such as:

  • Cocktail Receptions – music with film projected on a large wall
  • Convention Entertainment – 30 to 45 minute programs
  • Corporate Retreats – After Dinner Entertainment
  • Charity Events – background or featured entertainment
  • Film Festival Cast Parties
  • Educational - University, College & Secondary Film Programs
  • Featured Entertainment - Theatres, Museums, Historical Societies, Art Galleries

Robert Bruce performs his own piano compositions in a thoroughly enchanting cinematic live music experience. Audiences can't help but feel the spirit of Buster Keaton's innovative, hilarious, and often otherworldly classic silent film comedies.

“Robert Bruces's music is the perfect companion to the silent films of Buster Keaton”. –
The Silhouette

“His music is very visual and lends itself to conjuring up images and scenarios. It speaks of a very internal, personal soundscape with barely an influence from any other contemporary composer”.
Hugh Fraser, The Hamilton Spectator

In 2002 Robert formed Robert Bruce and the Classical Nouveau Ensemble to record and perform his varied works. His live performance programs feature various combinations of piano, voice, percussion, strings, woodwinds, dance, readings, special lighting, set design, image projection and other elements.

His first single, "A Little Bit of Neptune" (for 2 female voices) was released in May, 2004 and features vocalist Karen Barrett-Grignon. In 2003 Mr. Bruce also introduced his Live Music and Screen Magic Series that features screenings of film legend Buster Keaton's brilliant 1920's silent film comedies with live original scores (solo piano) by Robert Bruce. These programs steadily increased in popularity throughout 2004 and are now a regular part of his performance calendar.
